Lasers (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation), although somewhat of a mystery to the lay person, are widely and effectively used in medicine for a variety of treatments. Laser can be used for hair & tattoo removal, removal of facial skin abnormalities, and removal of wrinkles, and skin resurfacing. Laser procedures can be successful only in the hands of experts in the techniques and under the direction of knowledgeable physicians and trained staff.

Lasers emit an intense, focused beam of light, and heat and vaporize tissue instantly. With the precision of the beam our staff is able to erase unwanted scarring, blemishing, or discoloration. There are several lasers on the market today, however, one of the most exciting is the Erbium laser which can achieve dramatic results with fewer side effects associated with the previously popular Carbon Dioxide (C02) laser. The healing time, redness, and swelling after treatment with the Erbium laser is less than with most other lasers.

The vascular laser is highly effective in treating scars and port wine stains. Our physicians have had excellent results with many patients.

·        Vein Care

Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged due to abnormal blood flow. Telangiectatic or spider veins are smaller sizes of varicose veins and usually appear red or blue in color

Even though medical science does not yet have a definite answer as to what cause varicose or telangiectatic (spider) veins, it is know that having a family history of them is an indicator for future generations. Other contributing factors may be trauma, obesity, prolonged standing, and certain hormonal factors such as pregnancy, birth control pills, and post- menopausal hormone replacement.

CHIVA (conservative haemodynamic cure of incompetent and varicose veins in the ambulatory patient) is the advanced method used by our expert vascular surgeon. Since an individual might required his/her superficial leg veins (e.g. for coronary bypass at advanced age), it has been discovered that vein stripping is not the best method. This problem is solved with the use of the CHIVA method. Since clinical studies show only about 50% accuracy when assessing varicose veins, ultrasound is used to further increase the success rate of the procedure with better imaging. Ultrasound and lighting up of the vein that is responsible for the reverse blood flow allows the surgeon to use local anesthesia over the marked vein then utilize a small incision to correct the problem. No hospital admission is required and the patient is quickly ambulatory again.
